Youngsters wanting to make blizzards of money got valuable advice from financier Warren Buffett who was visiting his local Dairy Queen for the launch of the new Girl Scouts Thin Mint Blizzard. Surrounded by a group of Girl Scouts in his hometown of Omaha, Buffett offered this tip for college students: “The biggest suggestion I have is to avoid credit cards. Interest rates are very high on credit cards. Sometimes they are 18 percent. Sometimes they are 20 percent. If I borrowed money at 18 or 20 percent, I’d be broke. . . . So if I had one piece of advice for young people generally it would be to just avoid credit cards,” he said. And what advice does Buffett have for a new investor? “I would do a lot of reading before I invested,” he replied. “In other words I would prepare for it. I wouldn’t jump in the water until I know how to swim. . . .I read every book the Omaha Public Library had about investing by the time I was 11.” On qualities Buffett looks for in employees? “The biggest thing I look for is if they have a passion for whatever they are going to do,” he said.

Algonquin College. Exam week can be stressful on students. Inspired by the Christmas Food Court Flash Mob, Hallelujah Chorus, the Television Broadcasting students at Algonquin College wanted to showcase the new Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence by lightening the mood with the help of the Ottawa Regional Youth Choir and Darth Vader. Thank you to ORYC Manager, Valerie Jerabek and Director, Kevin Reeves for agreeing to participate in this crazy idea. Thank you to the choir itself, for sharing their beautiful voices and for not minding that we subbed in a Sith Lord as conductor 45 minutes before the performance. Thank you to all the students who helped out and in particular to Television student Shane Webster who ontop of helping organizing was running back and forth from the hospital expecting his first child. This is the best of the Blizzcon 2009 Costume contest in under 10 min. It features the best costume-to-concept matches in my opinion. I made it slightly more dramatic, adding pictures of the costumes as the contestants walked out, tweaking some of the sound, and adding appropriate music at the end. I had to make some difficult cuts to keep the video under 10 minutes. I also edited the contest winner scene at the end so that the end was more dramatic with no corny jokes. I had a great time at the convention and recommend it to anyone, even a non-gamer. There are a lot of theatre folks there too, who enjoy costume design, voice acting/singing, and dancing.
