I’ve heard of people getting letters in the mail from their service providers about copyright infringement, likely the result of something they downloaded.
How do service providers track this? Is there anyway to stop them from tracking this?

I currently have bills with Comcast and Verizon that I am paying off. And as far as I am aware, these are the only 2 service providers in the area (Northeast baltimore). And for these internet services, I had a modem from both providers.
I do not have a phone telephone (i use my cell phone for everything) so i can’t plug into my phone jack for service.
