Ink Cartridge Hacking

Posted by sandman49

What a ripoff. Ever wonder whats inside an ink cartridge? well you’ll find out in this video. these are the ink tanks that go to my Canon MP470 printer copier scanner. these things cost 50 bucks for a pack of 2 black and 1 color and im starting to have a collection of black cartridges so I guess I need to print more cheat codes lol, or maybe some pix in B&W for that classic look I dunno. I opened this by heating a screwdriver and pressing it into the joint untill the screwdriver went in then letting it cool then putting it back in and pryin up to crack the seal, well this is what the guts of inkjet cartridges look like, if you ask me i think its a ripoff you would think that the foam things are saturated but not in this case lol. anyway you know what to do so go do it lol thanks for watching

did you try resetting it like maybe unplugging it and plugging it back in? if that doesnt work then maybe thats a security feature built in so that you have to buy carts. I dunno, there has to be a way to bypass the sensor on ink carts.

Hi again Coondog, I have followed your advice and went from dispair to joy as my printer accepted my refilled cartridges. You haved saved me a few bob what with the cost of new cartridges and I am most grateful for your sound advice, all the best and many thanks for taking the time and trouble to answer my comment.

  3. coondogtheman1234 Says:

lol that really worked? I wasnt expecting it to lol but im glad it worked for you and that you are happy and happy printing. maybe ill try that on mine next time the cart is empty and ill fill it with something to trip the sensing.

lol buy some cheap pens and take them apart then use the ink from the pen to put it into the the foam things lol

  5. coondogtheman1234 Says:

I dont think that will work the ink is different in both pens and ink carts. ink in pens is thicker and oil based wheres printer cart ink is more liquid and has alcohol.

  6. killerdavesullo Says:

Brother ones, if yo open em its all liquid and a bigger sponge but fully filled up with ink

  7. coondogtheman1234 Says:

Oh ive never used those I use the BIC ones. I have seen those liquid ones they might work I dunno try it and post a vid.

Ok, here’s a tip. I worked with printers… You can refill almost every printer cartridge for about 8 times. But when it empties you mustnt wait or the color will dry in the sponge. After that I tried installing direct injecting system, I only had to have always full bottles and I never bought cartridge again :)

It’s not quite a hack until you show us a fix…but yes we are getting ripped off by the retail stores where we buy cartridge…that is why I now use the Continuous Ink System on my Epson Artisan 800(CIS costed $45)and Canon Pro9000(CIS cost me $150)refill ink is cheap

  10. sandydogy Says:

Hi there if you use a continuous ink system and say leave the printer unused for a while are there problems as I was thinking of using on myself also where do you get the ink to refill them and how do the chips work on them compared to a normal cartridge that works on how many drops of ink have gone through

Oh My My My.Good Lord. All I Did Was Crease Up Laughing, Sounds He`s Having A Bad Day.What With Foam Things, Theres An Empty Thing An Theres A Black One..Hes Really Hacked Off.

  12. coondogtheman1234 Says:

    @ UKneil1
the reason I sound like i’m having a bad day with these is b/c they are a friggin ripoff. whoever makes this is ripping ppl off and overcharging for them. the economy aint helping either by sucking the way it is.

  13. mynith Says:

They are only half full… Mine aren’t. These are probably those that came with the printer. The ones you buy separately last a fair bit longer. You are right in saying it’s a ripoff though. They could just as well have brimmed them. Anyway, these cartridges cost a lot because they have their own nozzles. Buy a more expensive model and the nozzles are o the printer itself, so the cartridges will be cheaper. If you don’t plan on using it often, get a cheap one, as you can replace clogged nozzles.

@mynith I will be getting rid of this printer and buying that new lexmark one or that kodak one the one where the ink carts are dirt cheap. yeah 4.99 for a 500 page B&W cart that is damn cheap. I dont care how much the printer it I’ll sell this one and use the money towards the new one. if I can’t sell this one i’ll just use it as a scanner or card reader or ill gut it for the parts but I’d hate to gut a perfectly good printer.

    Cyan is blue…

  16. coondogtheman1234 Says:

@107Bighead I know and the purple-violet one is magenta

  17. coondogtheman1234 Says:

@UKneil1 Ya! 50 bucks for one of these and it barely lasts you think i’m not “hacked” (pissed) off? its BS if you ask me. I had a Canon BJC-4300 printer in the 90s and I printed stuff like crazy and the carts lasted for months.

buy an epson and ciss kit

  19. imacer99 Says:

Good video makes me wonder about the company’s never honest out to get our money.

  20. coondogtheman1234 Says:

@imacer99 That’s EXACTLY what they are doing haha. but you are actually paying for the actual cartridge and not the ink. theres a decent amount of technology in one of these you ever take one apart? its messy as hell though, just warnin ya.

    hacking or just opening…

  22. skrulonair Says:

don’t buy geniue buy Bulk system ! easy from 100 gr of bulk syst ink you got about 70 cartriges

  23. ulosecuziplay11 Says:

I’m glad that you made a point to mention each color that comes inside every printer for all of the blind people who must of been watching this.

  24. naloblue Says:

actually, it’s much cheaper to just refill cartridges rather buying new ones. and don’t buy lexmark, i used to work at compusa… lex may be the cheapest printers out there but, u get wat u pay for, they are the worst when it comes to ink consumption and their inks are the most expensive…
canon has some of the best quality prints i’ve seen so i wouldn’t put them down
kodak seems promising tho, i seen the commercials
