Posted by sandman49silica crystal gel cat litter makes a cheap powder to kill bedbugs. You don’t need anything else. Bedbugs are easy to kill because they MUST come to your bed in order to develop and reproduce. This powder is the dirt cheapest way to kill them. Silica gel is the main ingredient of Drione. You don’t need anything except the silica gel cat litter ground to a fine fine powder. It sticks to the bed bugs and dries them up. Don’t be fooled by anyone else. You can buy a bag of silica gel cat litter, powder it and scatter it mainly on and around the bed and mattress. A bag of silica gel cat litter can treat a whole apartment building for about Can. You don’t need to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars for pesticides or an exterminator. You can however mix the silica gel powder you make with pesticides to get a better effect. I prefer propoxur because it has a residual effect for about a month. Pyrethrins break down in air in a couple of days. Powdered silica gel also kills cockroaches and many other insects. To test silica gel get one of those little packets of dessicant that says “throw away, don’t eat”. Crush it to a fine powder and put it in a container with a couple of bedbugs and they will be dead in a couple of hours(be sure some powder is on the bedbugs.) The silica gel in the packet is the same stuff as the silica gel cat litter. Don’t be deceived. Don’t tear apart your bedroom they will come to your bed. DON’T bother laundering everything or vacuuming. Don’t waste …

Maybe because you are “WEARING” the knapsack.

The point is that bedbugs seek out humans. Carbon dioxide has nothing to do with it. They don’t just sense carbon dioxide as many web sites and books want to trick you into believing. Bedbugs recognize the human scent.

You have to crush the crystals to a fine fine powder. If you don’t grind it to a powder it won’t work. Did you grind it to a powder or did you just put the large crystals into the glass. My videos say that you have to grind the silica gel to a fine fine powder. Do that and it will definitely work.

hi, will anybrand of litter box crystals work?
’cause i looked at the ingredients of a few boxes at walmart and none of them had silicagel, can you help please?

silica gel looks like road salt, or large salt crystals in general. The cat litter silica gel is usually a mix of white and blue crystals. I think the regular cat litter at walmart is bentonite and that is a totally different substance. Go to a pet supply store to find silica gel cat litter.

How long does it usually take to for the silica gel to kill?
February 22nd, 2010 at 12:47 pm
In a container as a test it will kill the bedbugs within hours. Get some bedbugs and put them in a container with a cover and put in some finely, finely powdered silica gel powder.
However spread around a bedroom it may take weeks to get rid of all the bedbugs. They suck blood and then may hide for weeks before having to come back for more. All the bedbugs are on a different feeding schedule.

I have no doubt the powder will work. Keep me informed though. I would like to be kept informed of your experience with the bedbugs. Your experience can help the other video viewers and commenters. Thanks.

Hi, my family and I have been fighting these things for over a year. We have spend hundreds of dollars, tore all the walls and installation, different streamers, left our house open with no wall or anything for 3 months, even heating the house twice to 120, we had no bed only air mattresses, no furture, and I mean nothing. We are all out of money with my husband off of work and my 2 babies. Im really tired. We are going to try this. I pray this works. Please God let this work!!!!!!!!!

Be sure to grind the silica gel cat litter to a fine fine powder. Diatomaceous earth works equally well. These (silica gel powder and diatomaceous earth) are the powders the commercial insect dusts are made of.

Guys, please be aware of the risks of crystalized silica. Do a google search on silicosis.
There is risk of permanent lung damage by grinding silica. Something to consider before trying this.
April 13th, 2010 at 11:53 pm
You don’t know what you are talking about. Silica gel is NOT crystalized silica. Do your research first and know what you are talking about BEFORE leaving wrong comments. Silica gel is a food ingredient. Sorry!
April 14th, 2010 at 10:20 pm
Well, gel and crystalized silica are two different things. Crystalline silica dust can cause silicosis but synthetic amorphous silica gel is non-friable, and so does not cause silicosis. But if you actively try to grind it down then it has the potential to be dangerous to the lungs. Something to consider.

crushing silica gel cat litter doesn’t change its crystal structure
April 15th, 2010 at 12:38 am
The key aspect of silica gel is it’s friability, IE they are not easily broken into smaller pieces. But, as you say, the structure of the silica will be more dangerous as a smaller particle. If it’s sharp enough to cut bugs, it’s small enough to breathe and damage the lungs. Might be relatively acceptable in small doses, but just something to think about. My point is to be careful and wear a mask.

you may be able to break it into smaller pieces but those pieces are not crystaline silica so it is harmless
